Bar Exam Format

The New York Bar Exam is a two-day bar exam administered on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. New York administers the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE).

The first day of the exam is the written portion. New York administers the Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) and the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). The MEE consists of six 30-minute essays. The MPT consists of two 90-minute “closed universe” questions that include the law, facts, and a case scenario.

The second day of the exam is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE). The MBE consists of 200-multiple choice questions tested in two 3-hour blocks. You must also take and complete an online course in New York-specific law and pass an online exam.
